“Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge,
but he who hates reproof is stupid.” – Proverbs 12:1
I remember when I’m playing as drummer in our band, I used to ask my mates to criticize me or say something when I done wrong as part of my growth in the band. I understand as founder and financier of our group, they will no revoke me for anything I do. I know that they are worrying if they say something that I might don’t like.
Actually it brought disadvantage to me as it limit me to learning something and to grow. This is why I’m always saying that I learn much from my mistake than my right because I know that I did something that I never made before.
Solomon known to be the wisest person who live in Earth said on Proverbs 12:1 that those who seek knowledge must also find reproof.
Now for the word discipline, because accepting reproofing shows patience. Sometimes we don’t like the idea of other people disagreeing with us because of our pride. It is like accepting that there are still things we don’t know. And as an ego-centered person it is a shame to their image.
But actually it works opposite to wise people. I remember in the book of Jostein Gaarder when he said that “Wisest is she who knows she does not know.” It is actually based from Socrates when he said that all he is not wise, what he knows is that he doesn’t know. Because if you already knew everything there is no room for you to know something new.
It is also mentioned in 48 Laws of Power that you should play dumber so you can have an advantage. Although the book oppose most of Christian philosophy it agrees on acquiring knowledge from people or usually criticism.
“Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the first fruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.” – Proverbs 3:9-10
In case that we are thinking that what we have today is from our own hardwork. We shouldn’t forget to honor God with our wealth. Yes do our part and from this hardwork God sees us and bless us that is more than we deserve.
This is much easier to do than than honoring Him in our sickness and poor. So with all prosperity we have in Earth it is God who gave it all and He is worthy of praise. It is not from our strength alone but from His grace.
“Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!”
– Psalm 27:14
A very encouraging words from David that deals with patience and courage. When we are waiting we need patience and sometimes when we are waiting for someone we have doubt and from doubt we are afraid. What if he/she already forgotten us? What if he/she will never come?
To answer that question we need to be strong and keep our faith high. God never change and surely He will come for us.
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. – Mark 13:31
Very encouraging words from God especially in this changing world. People change and pass away but we need to put our faith in God’s word as it will never be passed away. He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. So He helped and blessed us yesterday, I know He will do it today and tomorrow all we have to do is to stand firm for our faith.
“Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.” – Hebrews 13:15
From the verse there are two words from my thoughts, “continually” and “praise.” So this is about praising God continually regardless of situation in life we have. Followed by the verse “fruits of lops that acknowledge his name.” It is easy to curse when we are angry but we shouldn’t instead, we need to still acknowledging God that whatever happens this is for his Glory and acknowledge the goodness of it.
“Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.” – Revelation 4:11
What’s with the word creation? Google gave me the meaning of, “the action or process of bringing something into existence.” So there is nothing and from nothingness we were created. This answered all the question from theory of evolution wherein the question is still endless and only the word “creation” can answer. We are all nothing and by the will of God we existed and created.
This is enough reason to glorify God for what he done for us. We simply amaze on the things that people created. We been amused on how Zuckerberg “created” Facebook. How Larry Page and Sergey Brin created Google. So how much more for God who created us.
“Listen to your father who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old.” – Proverbs 23:22
This verse is straightforward and as a father there is nothing I want for my son and daughter than to raise them as a good person that is why I want them to listen to me.
In other side of my thoughts, on the line “gave you life” this is the other word of God. I remember when I’m attending a bible study, every time we had mentioned about giving a life, it is only God who can give life and even as a parents we didn’t gave the life on what our children possess. We our the way on how what they become on their lives here in earth but on the top of it God still the creator of life.
Now we talk about God and this is about following him. We need to listen to him as a father as there is nothing He wants on us than to live a better life. That how is I understand God’s commandment and his teaching as a father I put my life on him so I will get the same thoughts. It is the same of should I say even better He wants for us as a son and daughter than me who wants to my son and daughter.
