“Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. “ – Philippians 2:3
This verse shocked me this morning as a kind of competitive person in everything. And these days, as I focused on my business, I’m into a big competition. I want to be the best, I want always to be the top of the competition. And sometimes this let me think about treating it personally with my competitor.
Yesterday, God reminded me of being humble in everything I do. In my business I have excel in one of my edges but yesterday I got trouble and I really don’t know why and how to fix it. Until today that I got this words from him. It is clearer now to me that He wanted me to remain humble and instead of thinking about competition I should think about others more than myself especially in business competition.
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
This verse is actually for those unbeliever who think of themselves as wise since they are not for them to believe without scientific explanation or simply faith. It is like Solomon the wisest man (1 Kings 4:30 ) anticipated that this going to happen from those man who believe to be wise.
Even me, I questioned about God’s existence without fearing him before and I believe in myself that I’m wise because I’m not that easy to believe on things that I can’t see. But thanks God as He unfolded himself to me and that is the beginning of my true knowledge, I started to fear Him.
But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”
For me a very simple verse from Jesus Christ about praying until someone asked me from our community about, “What is the difference of praying in public like praying meeting, going to church or any activities that will let us pray outside our room and someone will sees us?”
To be honest until now I really don’t know how to answer it more specifically or will satisfy also my inquiry about word of God. About prayer meetings or congregation, Paul encourage us to don’t give up meeting together as Christian (Hebrews 10:25.) So I”m sure that question can’t be confused in attending spiritual meetings even that is his intention or want to mess it with that topic, Hebrews 10:25 is very clear about it.
Going back to a prayer and what Jesus told about it, I asked a pastor what does it mean and he told me that it is about praying in our heart (room).
And for me it was Jesus talking about hypocrites who wants to pray on synagogue or public places for others to see them praying. So the matter is with our heart. We need pray deep inside our heart and not for public appreciation as what most hypocrites did in his time.
Please enlighten me in this verse. You can post a comment here that will supply on how I understand it or give me a different perspective about the verse.
Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid.
It’s clearly from the verse that knowledge comes from discipline, so if we seek knowledge we need to seek discipline first. Self discipline on accepting our fault and set aside our ego when someone correct us.
As a video game player, one thing that I learned from a professional player when said that pride makes a player weak. I acknowledge that so every time I got mistake and someone reproof it even on good way or saying not a good words on me, still accept it as a learning from my mistake.
