A Journey To Eternal Life

“But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life.” – Romans 6:22

Our journey to eternal life undergo different process. This will start from becoming God’s people. That is the only way for us to be free from sin. This is also a sign that we are already God’s people if we are free from sinning. A very simple words but actually a difficult things to do.

Actually I really don’t get if it is really possible for us not to fall to temptation. I know that with the help of God’s love and how we are going to hold on to his word, we can do it but it still possible to see a sinless man on earth?

Everytime I remember this verse, it is like I’m losing my hope for the eternal life. I know it is not good to judge myself but I know myself and if I”m going to put this verse in my life I know I’m still slave, I know that I’m still far away from sanctification and eternal life 😦

  1. Love this! I used to struggle with the same thing too. I would always ask myself “Why can’t I be perfect, why am I always doing something wrong?” But after reading God’s word, I found that no man can be truly perfect. The only man who was perfect on Earth was, well, Jesus Christ. However, I find it best, as Christians, to strive to be more like Christ everyday. I know we won’t end up completely perfect, but it’ll be great to try!😂💛

  2. We will all sin. That is why we need, and have, a savior, Jesus Christ. Because of him, when we sin, we can repent, and his great atoning sacrifice allows him to say that we are forgiven.
    John 14, verses 1, 15, and 21 give us reassurance:
    1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me…
    If ye love me, keep my commandments…
    He that hath my commandments, and keeps them, he it is that loves me: and he that loves me will be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

  3. Even Paul said he had not reached perfection, but he was striving for it. He said he was doing things he didn’t want to do. I think God doesn’t make us perfect down here on earth because we would become proud. When we are less than perfect or sin, we see how much we need Jesus in our lives.

The clause, ‘set free’ comes the Greek eleutheroō (el-yoo-ther-o’-o) which means: 1) set at liberty: from the dominion of sin. 2) ‘to liberate, that is, (figuratively) to exempt (from moral, ceremonial or mortal liability).’ The word ‘slaves’ is douloō (doo-lo’-o) and it means: ‘to make a slave of, reduce to bondage.’ It comes from doulos (doo’-los): (metaphorically) ‘one who gives himself up to another’s will; those whose service is used by Christ in extending and advancing his cause among men.’

    As Christians we have been cleansed of our bedeviling sinful nature. We have been liberated from the demonic taskmasters of Satanism. We are in the favoured service of the glorious Christ. The good deeds that do emanate from us now and then, are the fruits we bear for housing the Holy Spirit in the spirit realm of our spiritual rejuvenation.

    When we sin (for we’re not humanly perfect), we have 1John 1:9 to take care of our wrongdoing. We are quite different from the unregenerate whose “wages for sin is death” (Romans 6:23). Our good deeds earn us crowns in heaven. There’s no way the righteousness of Christ which covers us will send us to hell. Therefore, let us –Christians- be full of good works. We’ll suffer the loss of celestial rewards if we take our salvation for granted. 1Corinthians 3:15 says, “If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.”

    I have nothing to cause any apprehensive state of mind concerning heaven. Romans 6:23 assures me that, ”but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” I cannot lose this eternal life. How do I know this? Romans 11:29 tells me, categorically, “For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.” I can bank assuredly on God’s faithfulness! Amen!!

  6. “Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.” John 17:3. Eternal life is not something we gain by being perfect and sinless. It is a gift from Christ because He is perfect and sinless, and He loves us. Eternal life starts the moment you know and believe in Jesus. Then the process of sanctification begins. It can be a slow and frustrating process. Expecting perfection in our own power this side of Heaven is fruitless. Rather, we are to seek the power of the Holy Spirit to help us to be more like Christ today than we were yesterday, to grow each day. “[H]e who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Phillippians 1:6.
